8 Reasons You Should Throw a Nesting Party

Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most important milestones. But it can also be one of the most overwhelming and stressful events. A nesting party offers a way for your ‘village’ to help prepare, celebrate, and connect before your little bundle of joy makes their arrival.

What is a Nesting Party?

Similar to some baby showers, a nesting party is a pre-baby gathering that combines the air of celebration of a baby shower with some practical preparation. The soon-to-be mother’s friends and family gather on a particular day to share snacks, stories, and help out prepare the home for the baby’s arrival.

Here are 10 reasons why you should throw one:

  1. Get organized. A nesting party is a perfect way to help soon-to-be parents tackle all those pre-baby tasks. With the help of friends and family, you can set up the nursery, wash and organize baby clothes, or assemble the furniture.

  2. Celebrate without stress. A nesting party focuses on quality time and bonding with the new mother before the baby shows up. Make sure to make the parents feel special and loved because after the baby is born, they’re all that grandma is going to want to see!

Take this opportunity to incorporate practical gifts as well! Skip the too-cute plush toys or the white outfit they'll wear once and focus on something to help relieve the stress. Diapers, wipes, freezer meals or a snack restock are all great ideas!

  3. Create meaningful memories. Bond with friends and family by decorating the nursery together or making sweet keepsakes. Baby showers are often all about games and gifts. A nesting party, however, approaches parenthood from a different angle: creating meaningful memories. Whether it's laughing while building a crib or the heartfelt feeling of decorating the nursery, these moments will stay with you!

  4. Customize the experience. Most associate the term ‘nesting’ with the overwhelming desire to clean or organize the home before the baby arrives. But, that isn’t what a nesting party has to be. Have fun with it! Have a crafty day by making baby blankets or nursery décor with your inner circle or have a full-blown ‘fill the freezer’ day. Whatever helps the family prepare will make the day a success. A nesting party is so adaptable that it can fit any family's needs.

  5. Reduce last minute stress. As if there wasn’t already enough to stress about before having a baby, the last thing you want is to realize you forgot to buy diapers. A nesting party can help by bringing together a village of people who all have experience and can share ideas and advice (see: prepare more one-handed breakfasts, like smoothies!).

  6. Strengthen your village. It really does take a village to raise a child. Even if you aren’t passing the baby off to grandma or auntie for a quick pedicure, having friends and family to love and support you through the emotional rollercoaster you’re about to go on, is just as important!

Having a baby changes your social dynamics and interactions and it's essential to have a strong support system in place. Gathering with those who will be there for your parenting journey is a great chance to foster a strong sense of community and let your loved ones know how they can help after the baby arrives.

  7. Include everyone. Baby showers tend to be female dominant but a nesting party is a great way to include everyone – from husbands, cousins, or siblings.

  8. Start parenthood with positive energy. A nesting party sets a joyful and collaborative setting for the next chapter in life. It’s a great way to bond with your village, make some core memories, and enter parenthood feeling prepared and uplifted!

At its core, a nesting party is about celebrating the parents-to-be. Pregnancy is a journey filled with ups and downs, triumphs and challenges, and a nesting party honours this passage. It isn't about perfect decor, gifts, or games; but rather about creating a meaningful experience and a chance to start new traditions. This intentional approach can feel far more fulfilling than a traditional baby shower.

Practical, intimate, and a beautiful way to prepare a deeply meaningful start to parenthood, nesting parties offer benefits that extend far beyond the party. So, if you're expecting a baby or know someone who is, consider hosting a nesting party.
